Springs is a market leader in Australia producing high quality
seafood.
The efficient distribution systems allow us to deliver daily, fresh
and smoked seafood of the highest quality throughout Australia and
overseas.
Springs has taken the standard of freshness, quality, packaging,
labelling and hygiene to new levels in the Australian seafood industry.
The standards set on the length of chilled "used by" dates
are high and oppose the practice of defrosted product being dated
as freshly packed seafood.
The purpose built smokehouse and processing facility at Mt Barker
in the Adelaide Hills is export registered and complies with strict
AQIS (Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service) standards, Reg
Est 1717 FPA Status. An A rating has been maintained with full HACCP
food safety controls and rigorous daily cleaning procedures. AQIS
officers carry out regular detailed inspections of the premises
and records. A full program of product, contact surface and factory
environment testing by an independent laboratory ensures continued
monitoring to satisfy AQIS and independent HACCP auditors of acceptable
international microbiological levels.
The Atlantic Salmon species has ling been recognised as the 'king'
of the salmon world. The texture, colour and oil content combine
to produce the ideal fish for smoking. Today Australia rivals Europe
by providing a cleaner, pristine, unpolluted environment to grow
Atlantic salmon. Innovative aquaculture techniques maintain control
of Southern Australia's disease free waters for the expanding seafood
industry. The fish grown in sea cages are fed a specifically prepared
diet to maximise growth rates and produce a premium quality.
During 2000-2001, Springs will produce 1000 tons of Atlantic salmon
for the Domestic and Export markets. Approximately two tonnes of
smoked and fresh seafood products are airfreighted around Australia
each day, and export sales continue to grow.
